Some Common Roofing Questions

How do I know if I need a new roof?

Generally, new shingled roofs should last upwards of 20+ years. There are many factors, such as proper installation, climate, and ventilation, that will impact the life of your roof.

Even if your roof shows signs of damage, you may not need a total roof replacement (see our Repair & Restoration page). We can give your roof a thorough examination and let you know if you are in need of a new roof, or just a few repairs.

How do I know which roofing product is best for me?

Craftsmanship and the quality roofing products are both essential in ensuring that you will be completely satisfied with your roofing project.

At Ferguson Roofing, we will help you determine which product and type of roof is the best choice for your home.

How is Standing Seam Roofing good for the environment?

1. Can be produced from recycled steel

2. Since existing roofs can remain in place under standing seam, the old roofing system is not taking up space in landfills.

3. Cool Roofing technology and reflective insulation reduces energy requirements.

How can I prevent algae growth on shingles?

Fortunately most types of architectural shingles that are manufactured today are coated with zinc or copper granules which help to prevent algae growth. However, make sure you select shingles that are algae resistant, especially for high humidity areas, or north facing roofs with light color shingles. Algae can be damaging, and cause black algae streaks to run down the roof lines.

What is involved in having my roof inspected?

As part of the estimation process, your roofing contractor should inspect your roof structure and inform you of any damage to the underlying wood prior to removing the old roof materials.  The roofing estimate should include the cost of  replacing any damaged materials.

At times, it is possible that hidden damage may not be discovered until after the roof surface is removed.

Why Use Ferguson Roofing?

It's important to choose a reputable and experienced roofing contractor. Cutting corners on quality of materials, and quality of work can offer a more appealing price, often costing you more in the coming years.

Be sure to get precise estimates that include detailed information on products, warrantees, and experience. Check up on your contractor!
